Alteration to Delivery Time - RCC News

Having now got into the flow of delivering the club news to you on the evening of publication it has become apparent that a slight alteration of time is required. This will take into account items received for publication during the evening (not everyone is retired like me 😉) so that we scoop up any late messages.

As such from Monday 14th October the delivery time will be altered 9:00am and any items received in the previous 24 hours will be sent to you.

Don't forget to spread the word about subscribing to the News page.

Tree Removal - Front Car Park

Can you please note that the front car park of the club will be closed on the Wednesday 27th November due to the removal of the front perimeter trees, and as our rear car park is likely to be very busy, it might be a good idea to avoid the club during the day if at all possible.

Message From Jo.

Well Laying Up Supper was my last official function as Vice Commodore. After the ups and downs of the last couple of weeks, the function went ahead, thanks to Mark and Emma getting in our chef for the evening and wow what a great meal. Also our entertainer for the evening Lisa Mills was great.

I have thoroughly enjoyed the last 2 years and the best part about it is watching you all having a great time. I couldn’t have done it without you all and a great team. As it was most defiantly a team effort. There is no amount of thanks to Gary Waltham for putting up with me, a massive thank you to a great team, Annemarie Wright (my right arm) who had listened to me stressing about ideas and will this be ok and or is that ok, Matthew Wright, Patricia Stapley, Art Stapley, Bob Pink, Marion, Jan, Mel, and Joseph. Thank you, and all the members for making my term as Vice Commodore a great time.

I will enjoy being part of our new Vices team, 😀 if they will put up with me, it is a very rewarding post. Thank you all. And sorry Carole Handley I pinched your picture. Xx

Letter From Frances Foreman

I received this letter from Frances Foreman and thought I would share it with you.
John Rufford

Dear John,

As you and many of your members are aware, this year I took on the Breast Cancer Kent £1000 challenge. I signed up to try and raise £1000 by making and selling knitted and crocheted brooches, button earrings and button pin badges.

I decided that I would purchase all the materials that I needed and so 100% of all money raised would go to the charity. You kindly allowed me to sell some of these items at a few of your functions, and I would like to inform you that RCC helped me raise £407.

I attended the prize giving at Leeds Castle this week, alongside 17 other individuals, groups and companies that all took part in this year’s challenge, and collectively we raised £36,000.

Of this, I raised a total of £2594.61 and came joint 4th, receiving a beautiful crystal plaque.

Breast Cancer Kent have been fundraising this year for a biopsy instrument that will work alongside their new scanner that can detect breast cancer in much younger women. This piece of equipment will cost £200,000 and I have been told that they have now hit this target and will be purchasing it very soon.

On a different note, I would personally like to remind all ladies to attend a regular mammogram appointment as this is how my cancer was detected. I had no lumps but 80% of my breast was affected and was told that if I hadn’t attended the screening program, by the time I felt a lump it would have been too late for me.

I would once again like to thank everyone for their kindness and support for this wonderful charity, and hope that by attending screenings and being vigilant, we can reduce the number of people that are affected by breast cancer in the future.

Kindest Regards,

Frances Foreman

Update To Club Web Site

The latest version of the new club web site has now been published, the main update is the fact that it is now mobile friendly and will present an easier to use version if you log into the site from a mobile phone or tablet.

You will still see the normal version if you use a PC.

There are a couple of other changes in the fact that a separate page has been identified in order to make it easier for potential members to gain information about joining, this and the members information page have been moved towards the top of the menu list.

Also a counter has been added to the Home page & New Members page for development purposes.
